Hello from Tennessee!

Post  growingsquares on 2/7/2012, 2:41 pm

Hello!

I posted last night on the Mid South board, but thought that I might introduce myself here as well. My husband and I have been researching and planning our square foot garden for about a year now. We've spent the past (unusually warm) month placing our boxes and preparing the area (had to be terraced as they are on a very slight incline). I'm planning to take some new pictures in the next week and hope to share them to get thoughts and input. Our next big projects are installing irrigation and fencing. We are really looking forward to spending time in the garden with our kids this summer!

glad you\'re here Growingsquares!
I'm new to the SFG methode this year as well. My kids are grown (well...the youngest is still at home finishing college)....but the memories of working and playing in the garden with them are priceless! It's a wonderful family activity. My kids helped plant, water, weed (old row method) as well as gather, prep, freeze and can preserves. None of it felt like "work" to them. One year we made a "Tee Pee" out of very long branches, then covered with cuc's, tiny pumpkins, sweet peas and bean vines. We put straw on the "floor". They spent hours in their own little area of the garden.

I hope you enjoy the forum, there are sooooo many knowledgeable folk here.

We hope you and the kids enjoy your first season with SFG.
Looking forward to seeing pictures of your new beds.

Have you had a chance to read the thread MELS MIX. It is full of great info, especially for newcomers.

Have fun, and keep us posted on your progress.
