GRRRRR My washout rant!

Post  jerzyjen on 4/2/2010, 10:20 am

So anyone in the northeast can probably sympathize with the REDICULOUS amount of rain we have been getting, after a REDICULOUS amount of snow that has also saturated the ground.

So anyway, while I'm trying not to be mad that my basement is dry when others in the state have indoor pools now - my sump pump has been running pretty much non stop for a few weeks now, especially over the past few days.

What does this have to do with gardening? Well, apparently the sump pump drains out into some underground barrel or something like that which I didnt know what DIRECTLY under my new strawberry box that is ready to go as I anxiously await my plant shipment from burpee. This barrel or whatever it is is so swollen that I now have a pool of mud under the box. If it were not for the weed fabric, I would have lost my mels mix in that box for sure. So today I get to move that box and then figure out how to deal with my problem. My luck, the plants will show up today. I dont really know when strawberries are supposed to be planted.

The good news in all this (besides my dry basement) is SFG! If this were a traditional garden that I had put all that work into, i would be REALLY mad.

Ohhhh. I feel so bad for all you folks in that bad weather. Can you feel me helping to push your box out of the swamp? You grab to cloth and pull. I'll push.

Drier days are coming. Keep the faith and celebrate SFG!

Aw Jen, that is rough! At the risk of sounding like Polly-Anna, at least you found out BEFORE the strawberries were in and drowning.

Deborah .....feeling like I have to do SOMETHING with this need to hug you ....where did the dog go?

wow, talk about a gray lining to a silver cloud! That is tough, but I agree - had it not been SFG it would have been worse, and thank God you had the weed fabric - that would have been a real heartbreaker!

(But so much better to vent here than at the neighbor's whose basements have become indoor swimming pools!)
