Started seeds in Maine 02/18

Post  quiltbea on 2/18/2012, 3:23 pm

Started seeds in my furnace room today. Found my heat mat in the garage and some food containers I'd saved to keep seeds separated by variety more easily (fewer in each container so easier to keep track). Most have their own lids to keep in the moisture. I sprinkle fine Vermiculite atop the seeds to help with easier germination. It sure feels good to get a start on spring, even tho its a little early for me.

Above: In 3/4 inch soil blocks I started 4 Dicicco Broccoli, 6 Munchkin Broccoli, 6 Golden Acre Cabbage (small, round 3-lb size), 4 Titan Parsley, 15 Arugula and 16 Mizuna.

Good start QuiltBea,

Even if it is a bit early for your area, it feels so good to get things growing.

Two days later I've got seeds germinating. I had to hurry and clear off a space to set up my lights. I wasn't expecting them this quickly so I was working on a quilting project when I thought I'd check them out. Hooray!

Above: You can see some of my DiCicco broccoli pushing up.

Above: Those little bits of green are sprouting Mizuna. I also got some Munchkin broccoli and a cabbage sprout. I'm leaving the others to do their thing in another day or so and then they'll join their kin under the lights. I'm a very happy gardener.
