peach weevils

Post  Palmdale Steve on 2/20/2012, 2:28 pm

Ihave a recurring problem with my peach trees in the last three years. I spray my trees with NEEM oilevery two weeks when my peaches are ripening but I stillget very small weevils or maggots right where the peach attaches to the branch. The weevil burrows into the peach at this juncture and gets into the pit and eventualy the peach starts to rot. I garden organically and do not want to spray chemicals on my trees. Can I spray NEEM oil more often or some other organic spray to solve this problem?

Buggies aside....

How are you growing your peaches????? Especially in the desert??? I'm really curious because I'd like to grow some peaches!!!

As for an organic pest control, and I'm not 100% on it's effectiveness on peach weevils, try Diatomaceous Earth. It's organic and not harmful to humans and animals so any pets are safe. Just make sure it's food grade safe. Local specialty pet stores and I think nurseries will have it.

I'd post sources but I'm still a newbie.
