Worm Ranch

Post  B00kemdano on 2/22/2012, 2:57 pm

I've been inspired in a number of ways by all of you here at SFG. I was cleaning up my wood pile yesterday and found some nice, big, juicy worms living under the bottom logs. So I saved them and started a worm ranch. It's too small to be a worm farm. Razz

When I get my TTs going, I'll use Josh's worm tube idea. Very Happy

worm ranchers

Post  curio on 2/22/2012, 6:21 pm

I've also decided to start a worm farm this year. I want to build a wooden box type in the garden if possible. I know it needs to be ventilated, and the location will be in dappled sunlight/shade. My concern is how to protect them during the winter without having to bring them inside (think very small house and no garage) My thought was to perhaps surround the box with straw bales and then lay styrofoam or something similar (weighted down) over the top. We are zone 8 a/b (right on the cusp) and generally don't get a lot of extremely cold weather in the winter, although it is quite wet.
Any suggestions?
