Second Hand Lions is a good movie.

When I started this SFG last yr, my DH said he would plant the corn in the row garden. I handed him the hoe and said go for it. He didn't get much, too hard.

I planted a 4 x 8 bed of corn. I got 178 ears, some were short because of late start and the worms attacked, but, I never lifted the hoe. That is why I do SFG.

Yes, I planted 4 per square, but, in SC the corn worms attack late in the season, and usually the corn has come off, but I planted late.

This yr. I'm planting organic corn, Orchard baby, takes about 45 days and only 3 ft tall, Yukon supreme,53 days, also short, and Texas Honey June, 93 days, but the husks are so tight that the worms supposedly cannot get in. I'm on an organic mission this yr.

I once read a solution for corn earworms is to put a couple of drops of mineral oil in the husk and it suffocates them. I never tried it so have no personal experience.
