Jumiclads 2012 Garden

Post  jumiclads on Thu Mar 08, 2012 5:57 pm

I have been in the garden for the last few days getting rid of all last years growing and all the weeds before they start to grow again and drop any seeds.

Took delivery a couple of days ago of 18 scaffolding boards and spent the last 2 days in between other jobs cutting and jointing the ends to make them into 6 - 11 feet x 4 feet raised beds. Started this evening digging off the excess soil from the garden plot so I can set the beds at the right level. This will take me a few days to complete but will put some pics up as soon as I have done some of it so that you get the idea.

I am staying with my good old garden soil again this year as it is too costly to fill all the beds with Mels Mix, maybe start on that later in the year ready for next year.

Greenhouse to clean out tomorrow . I have volunteered my son, Adam for that job. He should enjoy himself with the jet washer. Smile

I am going to stick with just tomatoes in the greenhouse this year as it got a bit crowded last year with everything in there. It was like a jungle.

More to follow, I will return.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I got the scaffold boards from a reclaimer called Hadley Reclaimed in Staffordshire, they were £10 each and you would need 2 for a 4x4 bed.

As for the vermiculite, you can get this from most builders merchant but it called something different than that because it it used for insulation and has a brand name on it.

I have not used Mel's mix in my beds again this year, weeds are kept down with a little work. Cost was the reason for this.
