March: What to plant in Northern California and Central Valley areas

I know, I'm late again! But with the wind, and the rain, and the wind, and the FROST a few days ago...ya probably didn't want to plant anything outside anyway, right?? Wink

Time to get some thing started...Spring is soooo close!

Asparagus Pea (also Winged bean, Goa bean)
Sow in garden. Harvest from July.

Borage (also Burrage, Bugloss)
Sow in garden. Harvest from July.

Broccoli Grow in seed trays
plant out in 4-6 weeks. Harvest from July.

Cardoon Grow in seed trays
plant out in 4-6 weeks. Harvest from January.

Carrot Sow in garden. Harvest from August.

Cauliflower Grow in seed trays
plant out in 4-6 weeks. Harvest from September.

Celery Grow in seed trays
plant out in 4-6 weeks. Harvest from September.

Chinese cabbage (also Wong bok, wong nga pak)
Sow direct in the garden. Harvest from July.

Chives (also Garden chives)
Sow in garden. Harvest from July.

Climbing beans (also Pole beans, Runner beans, Scarlet Runners) Sow in garden. Harvest from July.

Coriander (also Cilantro , chinese parsley)
Sow in garden. Harvest from June.

Dill
Sow in garden. Harvest from July.

Dwarf beans (also French beans, Bush beans)
Sow in garden. Harvest from July.

French tarragon Plant cuttings or root division.
Harvest from June.

Ginger Plant pieces of fresh root showing signs of shoots. Start ginger inside in pots. Harvest from November.

Globe artichokes
Sow in garden. Harvest from March.

Horseradish
Plant root pieces. Harvest from September.

Jerusalem Artichokes (also Sunchoke)
Plant tubers about 5cm (1.5") deep.. Harvest from September.

Lemon Balm (also Bee balm)
Sow in garden. Harvest from July.

Lettuce Sow in garden, or start in seed trays
plant out in 4-6 weeks.. Harvest from July.

Mint (also Garden mint)
Grow in trays and plant out or start from cuttings. Harvest from July.

Mizuna (also Japanese Greens, Mitzuna, Mibuna)
Sow in garden. Harvest from June.

Mustard greens (also gai choy)
Sow in garden. Harvest from June.

Onion Grow in seed trays
plant out in 4-6 weeks. Harvest from November.

Oregano (also Pot Marjoram)
Sow in garden, or start in seed trays. Harvest from June.

Pak Choy
Sow in garden. Harvest from June.

Peas
Sow in garden. Harvest from July.

Potato
Plant tuber. Harvest from September.

Radish
Sow in garden. Harvest from June.

Rhubarb
Plant pieces of rhizome or roots 8 - 10 cm (3 - 4 in.) deep. Harvest from 12 months.

Rocket (also Arugula/Rucola)
Sow in garden. Harvest from June.

Rosella (also Queensland Jam Plant, Roselle)
Sow in garden, or start in seed trays. Harvest from October.

Rosemary
Plant cuttings . Harvest from 12 months.

Sage (also Common Sage)
Sow in garden. Harvest from 18 months.

Salsify (also Vegetable oyster)
Sow in garden. Harvest from August.

Shallots (also Eschalots) Plant small bulblets, with stem just showing above ground. Harvest from August.

Silverbeet (also Swiss Chard or Mangold)
Sow in garden. Harvest from July.

Spinach (also English spinach)
Sow in garden. Harvest from June.

Spring onions (also Scallions, Bunching onions)
Sow in garden. Harvest from July.

Strawberries (from seeds) Start inside in pots or trays after chilling seeds.Harvest from 12 months.

Strawberry Plants
Plant with crown (of roots) just covered..Harvest from August.

Sweet Marjoram (also Knotted marjoram)
Grow in seed trays, plant out in 4-6 weeks. Harvest from July.

Tomato
Grow in seed trays, and plant out in 4-6 weeks.Harvest from July.

Turnip
Sow in garden. Harvest from June.

Trying to be patient patient...

I REALLY want to be playing in the dirt, but this darn cast (seriously? Broken wrist on 3/7???)is not allowing me. Trying to remember things happen for a reason. I still have Mel's mix (you should have seen the Dr.s face when i said cast???? Whos gonna make my Mel's mix???)to mix for three boxes. And trellises to build. Boo.

Oooohhhh, nooooo!! But hey, there's a bit of an upside here, just a tiny one! The rain we're having would cause you grief mixing the stuff too, or at least getting the MM into the boxes, right?
Take care of yourself...maybe you can get some of the seeds started inside and when the cast is off you can have your boxes ready in no time!!
