Hello from the Garden State !

Post  bbusacca on 3/11/2012, 4:00 pm

Hello all from the Garden State of New Jersey. We are long time gardeners (over 25 years) and although I had seen this concept before, we just haven't gotten around to it. Now empty nesters and looking for an easier way to garden with no tilling/weeding/bending - my husband isn't totally sold on it, but I am going to do 2 boxes and he will do traditional gardening and we'll see what happens ! Cool Barbara

Hi and welcome to the Forum. There's also a Mid-Atlantic Regional Forum where you can get area-specific info.

Have you had the chance to read the All New Square Foot Gardening book (2006) yet? If so, have you had any problems finding the ingredients for your Mel's Mix? That is probably the most critical aspect of SFG.

If you have specific questions, you may want to check the Search area first. It will save you time from having to wait for people to log on to get an answer.

Hope you have a great time on the Forum.

Kim

Hi from another poster living in New Jersey. Smile I just started gardening for real last year, so SFG is all I really know. I was successful enough that I'm doing it again this year. Hopefully your husband will be sold on the success you'll see too!

New Jersey is a neat state. I don't live there but I work there a few days a week.

Welcome. I'm a transplant from Jersey. The state has so much to offer but the down sides to it are just too much for me to handle. However the Jersey tomato's are some of the best I can ever remember. We dont have the road side stands down here that are all over like Jerz. But that's what got me into doing my own gardening. People who live outside of Jerz dont realize the natural fertile soil you have to work with up there. Anyway, good luck in your gardening ventures this year.

New to NJ too

Post  Sungyrll on 3/24/2012, 3:17 pm

Hi-- I just bought my first house at the Jersey Shore- about a mile and a half from the beach. I want to start my first garden and have no idea how to begin. I have a huge backyard and I love fresh veggies, so I want to begin. I have NO idea where to begin, but I found this site, and it looks like it will be good. I also lost my job a month after I closed on my house-- argh-- so I don't have a lot of money to invest. Any ideas and action plans would be greatly appreciated!

I love the competitive aspect of the spousal challenge...labor, space and harvest!

I'm told milk from Jersey cows have they highest cream content. Yummy stuff!

Welcome!

Welcome Jersey neighbors. This is a great forum for learning how to SFG and answers lots of questions. Great photos of progress from everyone. Enjoy the gardening experience, both of you.
