First Tomato

Post  WardinWake on 3/12/2012, 1:42 pm

Howdy Folks:

Early last spring we sprouted more tomatoes than we had room to plant so we just left them in their sprouting cups and watered them all summer, fall and this winter. Some died, a few lived. Those that lived stayed with some green on the plants, but did not get large. Mary transplanted them into larger cups last week and this morning I noticed that one of the plants has put on two tomatoes.

While working the beds this morning we have harvested potatoes not found when we dug them last fall. We also pulled a few onions and will get overwintered carrots today as well. It is almost SPRING.

God Bless, Ward and Mary.

I've heard of people getting their tomato seeds started early to get braggin' rights to the "first tomato," but starting 1 year early takes the prize!

We should have some sort of tomato competition.

I don't know how to do it or what to judge but a tomato competition would be cool.
