Bunny Waste in Compost??

Post  Irish3 on Mon 19 Mar 2012, 12:15 pm

I'm struggling with the compost aspect for my garden.. I saw something today that mentioned using the bunnies litterbox in a compost pile?? Seeing as how I do have a bunny that generates a whole lot of waste I thought I'd ask you all.. because it just seems odd.. but if it's safe and do-able I will have no problem using it... but not until I find out for sure it's good to use in a veggie garden. Thanks for any info!

Bunny stuff

Post  curio on Mon 19 Mar 2012, 12:24 pm

Absolutely!! In fact, manure from healthy rabbits is mild enough to be used directly as a top-dressing in gardens. Most people prefer to compost it. Use it as you would a "green additive" as it should help heat up the pile.

If the bunny poo is in shavings go ahead and throw it in the compost. If the bunny poo is in clay litter, throw it in the trash...
