Hello There

Hi,
After reading Mel's book, I've been lurking about- looking for advice and have decided to join the Forum. My home is on a half acre in Carmel Valley, Ca. Last Year, after giving up on row planting, I built 6, 3'X9'X18" redwood raised planters that took up 12 cubic yards of blended soil to fill. I lined the beds with 1/4" galvanized hardware cloth to keep the gophers. The first harvest was a lot of work and the water bills ran as high as $800 Mad (thanks to a broken irrigation pipe that was underground). I was looking for an alternative, and SFG looks like something I could really benefit from. I won't be harvesting tons of peppers, and eggplants that came in all at once anymore- That's for sure!

It would also be a good idea to purchase Mel Bartholomew's New Square Foot Gardening book. You can find it on amazon.com, Lowes, Home Depot or try your local library. I would recommend purchasing the book since you can refer to it at anytime. I have also loaned the book to people.
