Howdy from Raleigh

Howdy all from someone who has NEVER grown a single thing (legally) on purpose. Since last winter the MRS and myself went from a discussion about a tomato plant, to hanging tomato plants, to remembering some book about gardening in small areas to reading SFG newest, to 2 raised beds and mel's mix and then nets and pavers and raincathers etc.

If the SFG book didn't make it sound so simple, I would have never given it a try. Everyone here in NC who hasn't read the book swears what we are doing will not work. So no we're more inclined to make this successful.

From my own experience though, I promise to repeat every mistake ever made before, and probably come up with a couple of brand new ones.

It does appear though that NC is a great place to grow nearly year around.

You hit my nail on the head. For those of us who NEVER would have had the guts or experience to try to grow our own food, this method is the first and only "approachable" one I've ever found. The forum members don't expect me to have years of experience in horticulture and most everyone is just interested in having a little bit better food choices, achieving a little garden serenity, and doing just a little something more to preserve our resources...LOVE IT!

For the naysayers - there are several forum members who used to row garden and discovered that this method is so much less work and so much more fun! Smile I'm sure they'll speak up!

Please feel free to peruse the topics from the homepage or use the search bar in the upper left if you need information on something in particular. Please feel free to ask questions and, of course, we love pictures! Keep us posted on your progress! Smile

Relocating

Well done!! Looks like we may be headed to your neck of the woods, so you'll have another SFG advocate in your midst :-) Should know something in the next couple of weeks. We're looking at Holly Springs (near the nuclear plant) ~ any garden-friendly communities in the area that you can recommend?

Thank you, Kay!  Still packing and waiting for our marching orders, but will be relying on experienced Lower & Mid-South SFG'ers to guide me along after being in our Sub-Tropical climate for over a decade!
