Hello Roy , I'm from just north of the west end of the M4 in South wales . Welcome to the site .

Where are you situated ?

Any difficulties sorting your MM components etc. PM me and we'll sort it as a thread for others to follow.

Start collecting your mixed manures for self composting as soon as you can , as they are far better than the garden centre packs of rubbish with a little bit of manure in them .

For my inital composted purchased manures I joined a gardening club scheme in one of the big national chain gardening centres .. I get a discount and also special offer cash to be spent at the store tokens, It's been handy .

B&Q pensioners day ( if applicable ) is Wednesday 9 I think ) . Just picked up a special offer available till 15 April of 60 litres of compressed coir for £ 8 ish each , far cheaper than the small multi bag deals for a tenner .

Vermiculite is fairly easy to get in 100 litre bags at around £15 inc VAT.

Where I am there is oodles of places to source raw manures & straw to make up good compost .

Carmarthenshire County Coincil sell composter bins cheap under their recycling / green policy ( look like a Dalek ) approx 9 cu ft at a tenner each ( I have seven Wink ) ... they work well , if your in semi rural habitatiion like I am with whingeing neighbours next door.

Hi Roy from Wales and welcome !

I have strong memories of staying at my Aunt & Uncles house over the summers as a youngster. They lived in Taliaris near Llandeilo. My Aunt had a wonderful vegetable garden. I beefed up on those fresh veggies and fruits and warm pasteurised milk from the farm next door. blissful.

Now I am homesick Sad

Vermiculite .. get it from Keyline builder centers or Travis & Perkins aka. " T&P " it should be around £15 inc vat per bag ..That's the price I got 12 bags at from Keyline builders merchants in Jan 2012

I tried several insulation companies but they were kicking the butt by asking a minimum of £18 plus vat some were asking £22 and min order of 20 bags.

Coir is OK make sure it is fluffed up and hydrated not compressed or dry when you measure the quantities ..

steer well clear of the county councils recycled /composted stuff unless you're " DESPERATE " in big letters....it is full of weeds seeds and may well have all sorts of toxic contents & hormone weed killers that will kill your beds.

Fenlander here on site used the compressed stuff and it froze during the cold weather earlier this year just as he had put it to soak to break the bale down .

He had to wait till it thawed before he could get on with his beds.

He has just set up his beds as well , but his are the 4 x 4 ones not my cripples brick built beds @ 36 inches high
