Table Top Garden

Post  syrah2422 on 4/14/2012, 8:36 am

I'm building a 4 inch deep table top garden. Any recommendations for what I should plant in it? It will be 58"x 30" divided into 3 sections.

I'm using these plans to build it:
http://www.hgic.umd.edu/content/documents/HG601SaladTables_SaladBoxes.pdf

My main purpose for the table is lettuce but was I'm not what else would grow well in it. I wanted to have the ability to have a longer lettuce season so the table was an ideal solution.

I will also going to have two 3'x3' beds on the ground. A couple potato bags and will most likely grow our tomatoes in containers this year.

I have seedlings started: tomato, broccoli, cucumber, basil, cilantro, green onions, fennel. I also plan to plant carrots, potatoes, beans and peas.

So what would be a good choice to add to the table top? I am open to suggestions that are not on my list of plants to grow.

TIA
