Plastic cages

Post  Docsweet on 4/14/2012, 9:09 pm

Hello! Can anyone tell me how long do I need to keep my plastic cages over my swiss chard, spinach, and snow peas? Is there such a thing as too long, or too warm? Do I need thermometers in there to know? (Although I am gone 14 hours on the days that I work, so that is a big fluctuation in temperature.

Thanks for the help!

The temps will get very hot inside if it is sunny. Not sure of your temps in your region but I would take them off in the morning and close them in the evening. If still cold you can open one side to let the heat out but still somewhat protected.

You should keep the covers on until you know when your last frost is for your area. I would cover and recover if your not sure about your temps at night.

Ok, thanks!

Just for more info, looks like early this week will be in the 70s then down to 50s at night. End of week will be 60s day, and 40s night. We are having such a weird spring!
