Help with germnation

I am new to starting from seed. I purchased a self watering tray with peat pellets and everything worked well. I then decided to start some wildflowers. I didn't have any pellets left so I used some seed starting mix. My question is, How do I water this? It does not seem to be absorbing from the bottom like the pellets did. I then tried watering it from above and it was like putting water on a freshly rain x'd windshield. The mix seems to repel water like a ducks back.

The best way to work with the potting mixes is to dump them in to large bowl/bucket and fill with water and then smunch it around and once the mix has been saturated once it tends to take watering better the next time.

Since you have prob. already put in the seeds, add water to a spray bottle and add a tea. of dish soap, and spray, won't hurt the plants, and will let the dirt accept water.
