Corn tassels and deer?

Post  JustMe on 4/23/2012, 11:38 pm

My son would really like corn in the SFG. We have 4 ft high plastic fencing around the SFG to protect it from deer and other critters. If we can get it to grow, the actual corn would be protected by the fencing, but the tops would be over the fencing.

Do the deer eat corn tassels?

Even before we fenced the whole garden space, corn was never bothered by deer. Having said that, I did have the corn patch surrounded by pumpkin and winter squash vines, 'cause I'd heard deer don't want to walk through a squash plant--afraid of getting legs tangled. Also, they seemed to prefer our apples, roses, strawberries, lettuce, etc. etc. Smile
