last year's SFG

This was my first SFG, during last year's growing season.



This year, I am just getting started. I tried to start everything from seed this year, but because I got in a hurry and didn't temper everything properly, the sun fried most everything...so it is off to buy starters! Oh well, next time I'll do a better job.

I might add more boxes eventually, but we are going to do a house/garage remodel in the next 2-3 years and I want to wait until that is done before I do anything any closer to the house Very Happy

Are your SFG beds recessed down into the ground? Looks like from the picture, that they are level with the grass? Just wondering, maybe it's just the way the picture is....

They look great!

They are set in a bit. The boxes are made of 2 x 6s, and we put them in and anchored them before we laid the sod for the grass. So I think the sod was about 2" thick - maybe a little more. We bought an area-specific, drought tolerant sod variety which was not cheap so we wanted the boxes in before, and took those sections out of the sod order. Very Happy
