Zolne 6 (CT) Freeze Warning Tonight

Post  mrwes40 on 4/27/2012, 5:50 am

I have radishes, spinach, broccoli, kale, etc. already up and growing in the garden. With a looming freeze warning for Friday night, will a tarp over these be enough protection?

Thanks,
Bill

Well I know from experience from the last week or two that broccoli will do just fine in cold down to 20 degrees. The other plants you mentioned are cold hardy as well, but I'm not sure if they're as hardy as broccoli. Just to be safe, I would cover your plants. That will give them a little protection at least.

Here in western New York, we have several more nights ahead of us with freeze watches, but hopefully this cold snap will leave us soon.

I blanketed over the plastic last night , babies survived , in fact the lettuce sort of double size overnight and all the radishes popped up !
