Newbie in Kentucky

Post  AshleyinKY on 4/27/2012, 10:44 am

Hey everyone! I'm Ashley and I live in Lexington, KY. I was fortunate enough to buy my first house last year and after a great deal of remodeling inside, I have time to play outside Very Happy . I ran across the old SFG book in a second hand bookshop several years ago and have been interested in exploring Mel's SFG methods for some time now. This will be my first year employing what I have learned from reading the original book, trolling around A LOT of gardening forums on the web, and my basic knowledge of gardening in general. The new book should be making its way to my house via Amazon very soon and I look forward to plowing through it.

I am grateful to have ran across this forum as it seems very warm and inviting. I look forward to getting to know everyone and picking some brains!

Hi Ashley,

I've read both books, and I'm glad to hear you're getting the new book; Mel simplified a lot of things in it, as well as giving some great photos of how to assemble things like a trellis for the vining plants. He also changed up the planting a bit, so wait to decide for certain how many squares you'll need for each crop until you read that. The book is such a fast read, I plowed through it in a couple days and now use it as my reference point. This site is a great complementary tool; any questions you have are happily answered by all the experienced folks here, so don't hesitate to ask! The only stupid question is the one that doesn't get asked.
