What is this?

Post  LeeAnne12 on 5/2/2012, 7:54 pm

I've never posted a photo, so I'm hoping I do it right. Anyway, this is some type of cocoon, but I've never seen one before. It's on my blackberries and is probably 1/4 inch tall.
I can't get the photo to load...don't know if it's because I'm on an apple or what, so I'm copying the address and pasting.

Thanks,

It looks like a caterpillar shedding a skin but that seems wrong , for to the best of my knowledge they spin cocoons and become butterflies / moths .. ..... could it be one half in /out it's cocoon??

Plantoid, that could be it, because I didn't remember seeing them there that morning. I saw some lacewing eggs that morning, so I was looking closely at them. That afternoon, I took my daughter out there to show her the eggs and they were there. They feel like a cocoon. Do you think they could be lacewing cocoons? I just don't want them to be bad bugs.

Camprn, thanks for the compliment on my bird photos. If I could, I'd be out every day taking photos of them...but instead, I started a garden. Very Happy
