Say hello to my little friend

Post  ribarr4 on 5/3/2012, 10:45 pm

We grow without pesticides of any kind. In the past I have just picked off the cabbage worms and fed them to the chickens and fish, but this year because of the warm winter weather they have been much worse than normal. While I would be picking off the worms, moths would be fluttering around me laying more eggs and I couldn't do anything about it. Out of frustration I went up to our attic, found my old tennis racquet and went postal on them. It worked great. In the past two days I have killed 14 moths. That is 14 moths that are no longer laying eggs in the garden. After I whack them I can still feed them to the fish and chickens.

@ ribarrr.....I'm an organic gardener, both at home and at the community garden. I put light row cover over my plants before blossoming to keep off pests. It works wonderfully well.

Are you sure it's not a squash racquet? Laughing

That's really funny, I'd love to see the look on your neighbors faces, you with your racket swatting around the garden!

We've had a TON of butterflies this spring, so I know what you mean! They're beautiful but also frustrating. I don't think I could bring myself to swatting butterflies though, lol.

Ha Ha! Reminds me of myself.

I have one of those hand held tennis racket bug zapper thingies I use for problem bugs.

Is it wrong that I so enjoy the popping sound bothersome pests make when zapped by it?

Those electronic racquets are what gave me the idea, but I just didn't have one and didn't know if they worked well or not. I might have to pick one up.

I think my neighbors thin I’m crazy anyway. Just glad no one had an video camera or I would have wound up on Youtube.

It has made a difference though. For several days before I started whacking them I would look out the window at noon and there would be four or five fluttering around and there was always a couple in there, but now I see on eor two occasionally.
