My compost has turned to stinky sludge :(

Post  rsearles on 5/6/2012, 11:02 am

I have a tumbler bin and have been putting kitchen scraps in it. It seemed to be working all right for awhile, but this morning I went to open the bin and found it had turned to a bunch of really stinky sludge. I hadn't been putting much "brown" compost in, I wonder if that might be part of the problem.

My main question is: Can this be salvaged (maybe by adding a bunch of "good stuff"), or do I need to get rid of the sludge and start from scratch?

All you have to do is add more "brown" material. You'll be just fine What a Face

+2 -- too much green stuff (nitrogen). You need to add some 'brown' stuff. Most shoot for a 25% green stuff, 75% brown.
