Second year, second set of boxes

Post  squaredeal on 5/6/2012, 11:00 pm

I built a second set of boxes for my community garden this year. Two are 4 x 6, two are 4 x 4. I find that 6' lumber is the largest I can handle by myself and my car. It took me all day, and it was a hot day, and there ain't any square corners, but I got 'er done! After trying a couple different methods, I can say that the method described in Mel's book is the easiest without buying special anchor bolts.

Lookin' good, SquareDeal! I felt the same way about the box-building. I would not want to put a square near any of my boxes - I don't want to know how far off they are - but my plants didn't seem to mind! Look forward to seeing those boxes turn green!

Looks Fine to Me

Post  CharlesB on 5/7/2012, 8:58 am

Looks square enough to me. At my Community Garden I was aiming for square and I found this tool worked nicely in the field to help me out:

I too connect everything like in the book. No problems.

I am sure Mother Nature isn't a square.

What a great expansion to the community garden!

Do people ask you about your SFG when you're at the community garden?

Yes, people are curious, but not convinced enough to do it themselves. Unless the garden gets a grant I don't suspect any one but me will make the investment.
