New Box, Concerned About Wind Damage

Post  Ages on 4/8/2010, 9:01 pm

Hi Folks!

1st time SFG'er and I'm planning out my new box. I live in El Paso, Texas where the winds can be very strong from March through early May. Its very sunny though! I'm thinking that perhaps I should use a 12" high box even though I only intend to put in 6" of Mel's Mix. I figure the extra height would help prevent wind damage and also help out a bit in making sure that the lower end of my crops don't get to much sun. Does this make sense or am I being overly cautious? I'm a greenhorn at this . Your input is much appreciated!

Hiya Ages

Welcome to the forum. glad you\'re here

There's been a lot of talk about wind in the South Plains regional forum. The host of the region, Travis, has a permanent lean to his walk, from living in the wind! I think you'll find a lot of suggestions there. I'm sure you'll enjoy SFG, let us know how it goes.
