Something eating my Zucchini leaves

Post  Gilly21 on 5/15/2012, 4:41 pm

The damage is getting worse and worse. so far it is only on my most mature plant. It is not effecting the stems but I am getting concerned. I inspected it last night and found two of these little white bugs on it. I al so saw this morning two tiny green bugs that may have been some sort of grass hopper. They were too small and fast to get a pic. Any idea what I can do to stop the damage. Is it going to effect the production to let things be? I know there are little lizards, skinks and anoles in the garden that might jump in and help, but it rained the last two days and they may have been hiding. The damage has really taken off the last two days too.

I just planted a flat of flowers in here too and dont want to loose them as well.

I just saw your post and thought I'd jump in. It could be squash bettles or a catapiller. Have you tried Neem on the squash. If all else fails and you are willing to go non organic, Sevin is a pretty good pesticide.

Does anybody else have any suggestions.

Since writing this thread I have found flea beetles. They are hiding inside the zuc flowers. Sneaky. Last week I was policing every time I walked by to get what I could. I am on vacation for 9 days with my wife and son. Who knows what I am coming back to. My MIL is watching over things but she is a bit ornery and may do something I am not cool with. But I know she is just trying to help so I hope things are not too bad. When I left I had 4 zucs and 3 yellow squash growing nicely. I am excited to see my garden when I return Sat. I had tom sprouts on all 7 of my plants, and my first broc head was emerging. I am sure my lettuce is going to be out of control and my corn should be about 5 feet tall if the storms dont knock it over.
