I need help - Just starting in Fountain Inn, SC

Post  Krueger on 5/16/2012, 1:25 pm

I am assembling a Rion 8'-6" x 16'-6" Greenhouse on
a 4" thick level concrete pad with a 3" PVC Drain in the center, finish graded
to the center slightly. I am building (4) 3' x 7" [inside] x 18" deep planting
boxes to go in the four corners, leaving two isles for navigation. QUESTION:
Should I put a 3/8" marine plywood bottom of these boxes before i turn them over
- or is some other bottom material recommended?

Welcome to the forum. We love new members

Have you read the ALL NEW SQUAREFOOT GARDENING book. It is the how to manual used by the members of this forum and we think it makes gardening sooooo much easier. It is easily read and explains how to make the growing medium and spacing and so much else.

There are 2 ways that members put bottoms on their tabletops or not sitting on the soil beds. 1. the plywood you suggest (doesn't have to be marine) and 2. hardware cloth (wire) lined with weed block fabric. I have no experience with inside a greenhouse, so I hope somebody else can help you out with this.

Please take pictures and post them to the forum showing us the progress you are making . We even have a emoticon and please feel free to ask questions. You can also search the forum using the search box on the upper left side to see if a problem or solution has been discussed before.

Planter box bottoms

I looked at the top and only saw the Google search window - and with the check mark in the SFG Forum spot - all I get is back to the internet!

yep, but all the posts on google are from the forum if the search SFG forum is checked. There is another search box on the bottom left that has an inside search.
