Growing sorrel?

Post  Weedless_ on 5/16/2012, 9:41 pm

We sold our old house on Monday, leaving our first ever SFG boxes behind, repurposed as flower beds. When we came by the house to pick up a few remaining items, a big bunch of overwintered sorrel was awaiting us.
Sorrel is practically impossible to kill, I learned. It had a slow and sickly looking start for me, but once it took, there was no stopping it. It turned into a pillow of leaves.
I planted sorrel because I like its tart lemony taste in salads, it goes great with fish, and the main attraction is - green borscht. If you never heard about it, check it out on my blog page here:

Here is the picture of the last bunch I harvested as parting gift from our first SFG, it looks a bit wilted, since it was sitting in the iced water in the car for a few hours, but once I gave it a good rinse and wrapped in wet paper towels, it sprung right back to life. Cooked green borscht with it today:

Hope you are going to have a new SFG (with sorrel) in your new home. Where are you moving?

Kay

What a wonderful blog you have, I already saw several recipes I would love to try.
I think I will try to grow sorrel, or find it at the market JUST so I can try your borsch.

I was given a large amount of LOVAGE yesterday as well as a plant to start up, I wonder if you know anything about it, or whether I could use that instead?

That turkey lentil soup LOOKS great.
Are you moving north or south?
