lower south - Garden is not liking the cool weather and wind

Post  walshevak on 5/20/2012, 12:10 pm

It got down to 54 night before last and 49 last night and only up to low 70s during the day. It's noon and only 68* right now. My tomatoes and peppers are NOT liking this weather. My red scorpian pepper was struggling anyway. I brought him in today as the wind has been high, from the northeast and everything was drying out. Just hope the poor thing survives. The chocolate habenero managed to get bigger and seems to be weathering it better. The tomatos have dropped blossoms (or had them blown off) and the leaves are looking droopy and curley on some plants, especially the mortgage lifter. I may have to isolate her if she continues to look puny. Glad she's in a bucket.

The eggplants are under the tulle until they get big enough to blossom and for some reason are fareing ok.

I hope the rest of the region is doing ok and that it's just my little northern sliver that is behaving more like upper south.

Kay

Isn't that odd. In a month you will be begging for the cool spring again probably! but your plants will be happy. Didn't I see a tropical storm forming off of your coast. Hurricanes are not friends to the gardener.

Maybe you will end up with an extended summer or fall planting season. Smile Sorry I am not there to help.

sounds a bit like our weather.
The tomatoes are not thrilled with being outside, but I am sure they will survive.
Just this IFFY period of time to get through.

Tonight is supposed to be 45. Tomatoes will not be happy, but this may be the last night in the 40's for quite some time (one can only hope!).

I really wasn't paying much attention to the tv, cool weather, and that d---rain and wind. worrying about the garden, bugs, weeds, etc. Then I looked for weather report on the internet. Well, Alert in red, so I clicked on it. Duh, FROST warning! Weather man had a bad hair day! Then the weather came on the tv. Tropical storm sitting 125 miles off the coast. just very windy and lots of rain. Not expected to be more than a tropical storm, don't know if this lousey weather is coming your way, Kay

It will be h--- hot next week so I'm enjoying it while I can!

Enjoy the cool temps while you can. Its been so hot here I had to pull half of my garden yesterday. All my lettuce, spinach, and broccoli bolted Sad.

Got quite a few good salads but I only got a couple small bite size pieces of broccoli out of 4 plants.
