Anyone else BBQ/Grillin this Weekend?

Post  Daniel9999 on 5/26/2012, 4:18 pm

Memorial Day is the unofficial beginning of BBQ/Grillin season around these parts and I am completely stoked to fire up the old Weber tomorrow!

I got me some homemade orange-ginger BBQ sauce I whipped up from scratch to slather on some chicken thighs I am marinading in a citrus herb brine

That will go with a homemade Asian Style Slaw on the side and some frosty Canadian Dry Green Tea Ginger Ale and Oregon microbrews to drink.

Whats everyone else Grillin/BBQing this weekend?

Sounds yummy! Steaks today with potatoes on the grill and asparagus. Tomorrow burgers with pasta salad, corn on the cob and watermelon (from which I intend to can Gingered Watermelon Rind Relish).

The Tri Tip cut originated in and around the Santa Maria area of California.

http://santamariavalleybbq.com/2009/02/18/introduction-to-santa-maria-style-barbecue/

Its since spread all up and down the Pacific West Coast to Oregon and Washington owing to the increasing popularity of the cut here.

Its basically a West Coast specialty cut.

Yes! My husband told me today we need to make sure and have the radio on, Monday at 3pm EST. Radio stations across the nation will have a moment of silence for those veterans who gave their lives for this great country.

Yesterday fired up the UDS and did chicken roll-ups...chicken breast flattened and rolled w/ black forest ham, lorain swiss cheese, a little Tony Chacheres and Mango Habanera for spices and into cherry smoke for 2 hours. Should have done 12 more!!

Going to a friends tommorow for pulled pork from his UDS- - -but will there be cole slaw?

I have got to say that UDS is a beautiful piece of equipment. I must see some inside photos.

I just drooled all over my keyboard drool Mines loaded right now with pork butt for pulled pork tomorrow

Here's a shot of the inside when I was building it. It's heavily seasoned on the inside now! Someplace I have a photo of the fire/coal basket I built, but can't seem to find it...Might have to take another when this q is done.

This isn't today's q, but just a shot to show how nice and roomy it is. I've got a Weber lid for it which will allow me to add another rack on the inside and still have enough room to throw in a larger cut of meat or turkey.

Makes great cornbread!

The UDS is the best smoker/bbq'er I've ever owned or used and hands down the cheapest!
You can buy one built, but be prepared to pay for it Razz

smokin a rib roast

Post  Palmdale Steve on 5/27/2012, 10:43 am

I am going to use a water smoker to smoke a 3 rib rib roast Monday. I rub it down with a rub, wrap it plastic wrap, let it stay in the fridge over night then smoke it over mesquite wood for 12 hours. Then I take it out, put foil over it for 15 minutes then slice it 1 inch thick. SIMPLY AMAZING!

Thanks for the info!

Memorial Day used to be called Decoration Day. It was a day set aside to go to the cemetary. Graves were cleaned and flowers were left. Now it is a cooking holiday!

Since we're supposed to have tons of rain and maybe some wind, we changed to hommade pizza, sauce from the garden last yr,and garden veggies too.

If it comes and goes by tomm. we might grill some dogs, freezer slaw, and maybe the last of the corn from last yr too.

Nope. It's going to be another unpleasant day in the 90's on Mon. and Tues. We decided to barbecue after the heat wave passes in a few days.

Yup, did baby back ribs today (Sunday) on the grill, and a beef brisket is going on the smoker tomorrow! I love smoking and grilling when its hot outside - easier to get the grills up to temperature.

Post  Coelli on 5/27/2012, 11:50 pm

My boyfriend did a "pig log" (pork tenderloin) yesterday with a bacon weave on top (cheated and did the weave in the oven) for himself and the kids. Tonight he and the kids finished that, but I also grilled a few pounds of chicken breast and bratwurst that needed cooking. Tomorrow the family will eat that while I eat either grass-fed steak or grass-fed beef hot dogs... yum!
