Looks like orange poop

Post  NHGardener on 6/5/2012, 8:49 pm

I found it all over my pea plants and other plants - drops of rust colored liquid that I believe must be some kind of bug poop. They are dotting many of the leaves. At first I thought maybe it was slug poop, but I see that's black and more pellety than a liquid.

Any ideas? Maybe if I know the bug I can do something about it. My leaves are getting very hole-y.

Do the honey bees fly over your garden? It sounds like they might. Very Happy

Seriously? Oh my gosh! Yes, the garden is not far from the hives. Too funny! They must've been active today - I'll bet the pea plants were the local outhouse, they probably all made a mad dash during a break in the rain. Laughing

is this the same thing?

Post  Lovage on 6/9/2014, 1:25 pm

I've found something in one of the beds - looks like patches of a rusty stain on the soil from a bit of a distance but is actually very small caviar-like, rusty orange balls. Not on the plants yet.

Here's a pic - someone has suggested it is a fungus? It looks more rust coloured than this." />

The thing about fungus is that it can be any colour of the rainbow and almost any appearance
It looks fungal to me.
I get this stuff that literally looks like someone threw up in my garden, but it is really just "fungal" stuff..

GWN, that's slime mold. You probably know that. Kinda cool.

And that picture looks like fungus, which is really just a by-product of soil biodegrading. I wouldn't worry about it. Fungus is actually good for your soil, I think.
