Louisiana (west central) Asparagus

Post  toledobend on 6/15/2012, 10:56 am

My wife want asparagus. Any suggestions on how to set up the bed? Is full sun preferable? Is this one instance where one should prep the dirt under the sfg? ETC.

when I lived in Alexandria I had a nice bed of asparagus
I used an area I had prepped for a few years building up the soil with mulch and lots of leaves in the winter. I think it was the total nutrients I had used for 3 or 4 years before dedicating the area for asparagus that made it such a good bed.

I would suggest making sure your soil PH was right and was in good condition because once planted you are not going to be changing the crop any time in the far future so spend a few years making sure the area is ideal and you will have a carefree asparagus garden.
