Peat Pots and Peat Pellets

Post  sceleste54 on 6/17/2012, 4:11 pm

I'm interested to know how other folks deal with transplants started in peat pots or pellets. I've always been under the impression that you had to cut up the sides to prevent root binding. Does anyone just plant them in the ground as is??

I cut the bottoms out to the extent I can so that the roots are not bound in the pots/pellets before I plant in the ground.

I try to up-pot my seedlings or plant them in the garden before the roots enter the sides of the peat pot. I try to remove as much of the peat pot as I can without damaging the roots of the seedling. Usually the roots have already entered the pot on the bottom so I just try to remove as much of the peat pot as I can.
