What the heck is this weird plant???

Post  CapeCoddess on Sun 24 Jun 2012 - 15:47

I found this weird plant in where the bush beans and some cucs are supposed to be. I wasn't sure what it was so I left it. Now it's growing something. Shocked A flower? A fruit? Do I eat it?

Btw, the red stuff is only cayenne pepper to keep the rabbits out.

I thought is might be pototoes that my mom planted last year in this bed but I don't know what potatoes look like. Is it potatoes?

It looks like a Dahlia flower to me, but I could be wrong. It should be open soon, then post a pic and we will see.

I have a Dahlia growing in the TT sfg, my mom planted it there, it has a tuber, sorta like a sweet potato, maybe it got planted for a potato by mistake.

Here is the one growing in the TT sfg

and here is a close up

Oh yeah. Yours looks the same except mine is pointing down. Yes, if dahlia is a tuber, it very well could have been planted by mistake as a potato. Great detective work!

Thanks so much, Josh. I love love love your gardens and the ideas you come up with. It's always a joy to follow your posts.
