Re: A new baby....

Post  walshevak on 7/2/2012, 8:33 pm

One of mine fell during the storm last Fri. The neighbor who was helping keep things watered rescued it from the ground and gave it back to me on Sun when I got back home after a week. Was only about the size of a large cantaloupe and was just turning pink inside. But it still had a nice watermelon taste. Got about a cup of light pink melon.

Needless to say, I got out this morning and resecured the ones that I had already "hammocked" and caught up with the ones that were too small when I left last week. Also "hammocked" the cantaloupes.

Thanks everyone!

My watermelon is a sugar baby...

CharlesB - that is a nice baby pumpkin!

My pumpkin plants only have blossoms on them - I keep looking for a female blossom but none yet.

There should be more babies on the way....sunny

@ walshevak: What are you using to hold your melons in? We planted our cants & sugar babies some time ago and only have blossoms so far.

First, BEAUTIFUL setup, what a gorgeous garden. Second, what are the slings made out of? Looks like hose?

Yep, panty hose and knee high hose. I have always saved my old holey hose for use with plants and have a drawerfull from my days as a office person. But my son's wife doesn't wear them so I went to Walmart and found some knee highs for $.33 a pair. Cut off the toe, split the leg and voila, a sling. Don't have a picture of his melons.
