Powdery Mildew? And Cucumber Beetles?

Post  arla on 8/8/2012, 11:51 pm

My zuchinni plant seems to be dying, the lowest leaves have turned brown and in fact have mostly disintegrated, not sure what's happening? Powdery Mildew maybe? Although having down some looking around I've not yet found a cure for that, is it fertilizer?

I've also found what I believe is a cucumber beetle?

I guess my main question is, what should I do differently next year? Should I be spraying plants a ton to stop these from getting on the plants, or... I think I've been "natural" gardening to a large extent by not sparying anything on the plants, but can't continue to have my plants just dying off like this every year. I'm hoping my spaghetti squash (where the cucumber beetle was found) will be okay, although it also looks to me like it may be starting to succumb to powdery mildew.

I'm sorry I cannot help you with the bug, but the loss of older foliage can be considered normal. Just prune all the dead leaf and stems and the plant will look so much better.
