Too hot!  From 98-103 days and 70-73 at nights.  I would like it to stay around 80 or less.

Last night it hailed sooo much the city had to get snowplows out! I am afraid to go home and look in the garden. Thankfully my best to crops are potatoes and beets! It has rained about every day this summer, I think I have watered my garden twice all year!

Yes, maybe a little low but pretty normal for here.  Normally by now everything is dried up and brown but everything is sooo green, it's great!

We are starting to cool off. Tonight on my walk with my dog I need a sweater and pants. Guess fall is on its way ready or not.

I actually like fall, but that just leads to winter, ugh!  Although I love me a good snow day, I just hate when it's just plain cold!

I love the cooler fall weather but I never cared for fall.  Now I figured out why (it took long enough).  It is because things are turning brown!  It is just not pleasant to look at just the color of dull brown, lol!

Mschaef it is nice it is so nice to finally feel the temperature change like that!

Temps in the 70s-40s.  Thunderstorms, with the possibility of "heavy" rain and winds up to 50 mph.

Our 35 mph winds have already made some of my corn lean over.  Is there a simple way to construct some kind of windbreak?

There are quite a few back threads that address this issue of corn blowing over, or not being well supported in the SFG... Good luck.

Dry and hot.  We cannot see the mountains for the smoke.  But it is not as dry as last year yet, no local fire restrictions yet.  One canal is down due to low water but ours is still going so we will get 3 hay cuttings, God willing and the hail don't flail.  The nights are cooling now.

HOT HOT HOT AND DRY! We are back into the upper 90's and for some reason, it can rain all around my place, and not share a drop.
Cheyanne, my inlaws are right outside of Hot Springs and getting little to no rain. Lol, going all around them as well.

Isn't that something Rooster!  I wish the rain to you and them, just heard on the radio today that tomorrow, Wed and Thursday more thunderstorms!  I'll try to blow them in your direction!  Turan, we are getting the smoke over here too, crazy how it can travel so far, surly it's nothing compared to the smoke there!

Re: Western Mountains and High Plains: What's Your Weather Like?

Post  sanderson on 9/13/2013, 6:17 am

Finally worked my way to this topic. Flooding in Colorado. I have relatives at a reunion and the couples got caught in a Flooded No Drive area just 2 miles away from their motel. The owner of a closed restaurant opened his doors for all of them. Provided water, hot coffee and sodas but refused, even when they tried to sneak money to him, to take any money. Good to know there are nice folks out there.

Will there be any damage from this storm, aside from flooding?

Side note for older gardeners. The vets served in the same army company (?) and they took fatalities. About 3 years ago, one of them tracked down the survivors and they got together. One wife said it was the first time her husband talked about VN in all of their marriage. It did all of the guys good.

Got our first frost last night but I did remember how cool it was supposed to get and I got my lone tomato closed up in the Plant Inn,  ! I am still hanging on to hope that that thing will hold off the frost long enough for my tomatoes to ripen!! I also have some peppers in there too, I am excited to go home and see everything... I have a few squash that I need to pick too and it's probably about time I did up my taters too!
