How many sugar snap plants a square

Post  no-till on 8/19/2012, 4:06 pm

The book says eight (probably 9) but that's not my question. This seems like a lot of plants. Won't my trellis get overly dense, or are they unlike cucumbers and other trellis plants and won't take up much space?

In my opinion when I grew them I was glad I followed the book, as the veggie itself is not very big so it takes a lot to have decent results.

I try to account for some plant loss so I plant 16-18 per square because they don't always come up and don't always grow to maturity.

How many sugar snap plants a square

Post  no-till on 8/19/2012, 5:07 pm

Thank you llama momma,
I think that answers my concern, except that I know the peas are smaller.
Should I assume from your answer that the vegetation (leaves, stalks etc.) is not anywhere near as dense as say cucumbers?
Thanks to all.

Your welcome.
The vine is much more wispy compared to cucumber vines and their great big leaves.

I am blown away by camprn's answer and I believe I will try her method next time. You might as well get the biggest bang for your buck. sunny

Thanks, and I agree with camprn also. The less space used, the less space needed. You can always thin them later.
