Hi y'all. I'm Karla and have been dreaming about gardening for the past two years since we sold our house, moved in with mom while we built our new house and finally now have a brand new back yard just waiting to be gardened in Flower Mound! I'm starting with two 4x8 beds and have my little (and not-so-little) seedlings just waiting to get out into that beautiful Mel's mix. I've gardened before but not using the SFG method. This site is a treasure trove of information!

Karma must be at me today.  I had never heard of Flower Mound, Tx. and just today I got word that a high school classmate of mine who was living there has passed away a day or so ago.
I've not seen her in at least 20 years, but would you plant a plant in your garden in her memory?

Kay

Kamigh, Post photos when you can.  Having two 4' x 8' beds is wonderful!

So sorry to hear about your classmate Kay.  It's a sad day for me as well because it's the anniversary of the day my high school best friend's mom passed away.  I will definitely plant something in honor of both of them.  Flower Mound is a real little treasure not far from the DFW airport.  I can honestly say I had never been here before last year when we were looking to build a new house. . .  they still have lots of land out here, unlike most of the metroplex.
It's late (and dark) now but I'll get out there tomorrow and take some pictures to post.  I have been dreaming of this garden for 2 years now, so it is literally a dream come true to have it now.
Question for all: how many cucumber plants do I need for a family of 5?  I bought 3 different varieties of seeds, and Mel says we can plant 2 per square, but I'm not sure if I need 2 of each variety for 6 plants in three squares or if I can get away with 4 plants in 2 squares.  If I remember correctly, cucumbers are quite prolific, but maybe not.  If I can save a square for something else, I'd rather do that.  The three varieties I bought (all from Pinetree Garden Seeds) are Diva, Spacemaster, and a mini English cuke called Picolino.
