New SFG Gardener Saying Hello...

Post  mulebelle on 9/22/2012, 12:44 pm

I came across the square-foot gardening theory after I retired a few months ago and am starting with one bed that is about 4 X 8 for a fall garden here in northern California. I'm not sure what zone I'm in because different maps tell me different things but it is either Zone 9 or 14. I live in Mendocino County and no, I don't grow anything that is worth a lot of money!
However, because of that clandestine industry, I am able to find just about anything this old fashioned vegetable/flower gardener would like in the way of supplies locally.
My goal is to produce all the vegetables I eat organically and would like to use as many heirloom varieties as possible. This site is an exciting find for me!

Welcome aboard Mulebelle. We live in different growing zones, that's for sure, but there are many Californians on board who can give you better info regarding growing in your area.
Good luck and enjoy gardening tasty, fresh foods.
