Finally found Poo!

Post  CindiLou on 9/23/2012, 2:48 am

It seemed like every time I thought I had a source for rabbit poo lined up, it fell through! Finally, last week I went on Craigslist just out of boredom. A lady just a half hour away was looking to get rid of poo! Her young sons raise rabbits for 4H and to sell. They were overrun by poo! rofl After much email tag we finally called each other! Last Tuesday I went and got poo! I paid the boys $2 for 50lb feed bags half full. Seems like not much but she said $3 was to generous! thinking NOT gonna fuss rock on I have poo! She even made the boy fill and put the bags in the truck (like my hubby was gonna stand around and WATCH a 10 yr old do the work).

You should have heard all the poo, ect ect , jokes on the way home lol Me, hubby, 22 yr old daughter. My sides hurt just remembering lol..

Now I have 18 bags of poo to put on my gardens!
I do think I want to get some chicken manure also. I need to look around for a supply. Have a horse farm a block away. I will look into that too. Humm... seems like I have been on this search before! Topped with leaves soon, I think my beds will be great next year. Oh well, my veggies will love me!

Supposed to get down to freezing tonight. So plastic on the two beds in use. One of the 4x6s and the tomatoes. I moved an old swing set over them and made an A-frame greenhouse to keep them warm. They are still going strong!

I closed them up just before dark. Now crossing my fingers. Just the first of many times this fall I am sure! Now I need to work on cleaning up the rest of the beds for winter.

When I lived in western Kansas I found a source of rabbit poo. The problem I found with it was that every grain known to man was eaten by those hares and each seed sprouted in my garden. What I liked about it was it was like time release pellets. It took a long time for it to break down.

Since moving to Kan City it's not that easy to find a source of manure like it was in rural Kansas but last week I found a source of horse not far from home. It's now cooking in my compost pile.

No S..... Cindy ?
Congratulations , fermentations and compostations I want to tell the world that you've just got Poo .... sorry to Sir Cliff Richards for pinching his song's tune & inserting my own worms .

Compost some of it as well , for it breaks down well and then helps other stuff break down .. keep it slightly more than damp but not wet if you get my drift .

"Are we in Heaven? No we are in Iowa!" Said in the movie Field of Dreams!

CindyLou's in Heaven, err Iowa with her rabbit poo! You got a lot, congratulations!

On vacation one year we went from Nebraska and Eastern Iowa visiting relatives west to where the movie Field of Dreams was made. We videoed us walking into the fields of corn and people do seem to disappear. People were also playing on the baseball field. It was fun and almost magical walking through the fields of corn and around the property.

Iowa is such beautiful country!
