I totally didn't plant this

Post  NaturesApprentice on Thu 27 Sep 2012 - 15:58

So, yeah...potatoes were a bust. Basically harvested a tiny bit more than I planted, but I learned a bunch so I'll give it another go in my "fall" garden (in quotes because of our two seasons, green and brown).

I found about 4 or 5 of these buried in the dirt (not near the tubers) and figured they were too ugly to keep around. I figured they are some kind of larvae? Jerusalem Crickets are about as ugly, but I don't know what their ugly babies look like.

Any thoughts?

(oh, I didn't keep them. Bird Food. So just curious, really)

They look like June Bug larvae to me.

Y'all are going to think we're softies, but when DH and I were preparing our front yard for the new SFG, we found dozens of these in the sod we were removing, so we just put them in a bucket with some dirt and when we were done for the day we dug a new "home" from them out back, dumped them in and gave them a new sod blanket.

Positively a beetle larvae.
Japanese beetle?
stag beetle?

That's a Junie bug larvae! My lettuce beds were loaded with them last year when I dug them up. The chickens loved them.... Laughing
