Freeze warning for CT

Post  Nicola on 10/11/2012, 11:55 pm

Just saw the weather report on my local news, and they're saying that we'll have freezing temps tomorrow overnight silly me 20's to low 30's. Are you kidding me?! Now I have to see what's left that I want to keep growing--salad tomatoes, for example--and remember/learn idk what to do to protect my plants.cloudy-bummer

We have a freeze warning for our area too. I would consider carefully about harvesting everything that is tender and summer growing. A light frost can be held at bay with a sheet covering, but a freeze can destroy your vegetables. I plan to take in all peppers and tomatoes. The eggplants were done last week.

I had too much running around to do that evening, and never did blanket anything. But today was nice, so I went and cleaned out one box--2 tiny eggplants, some frying peppers, mini peppers, and a pile of cherry and grape tomatoes--most of 'em green.
[Recipes, anyone??]
My second box: I cleaned out a squash vine (the critters already enjoyed the fruit of that labor, when the little squashes grew through to outside the chicken fence meant to keep the critters out), old tomato & pea plants, basil--which turned sickly looking weeks ago-- and some tall, scraggly, post-bolt lettuce And CARROTS, which I left in my "bucket square" all summer, since most of what I pulled out on time, then here&there later were pretty small. But I had several that were close to normal size. Hopefully I can borrow a camera to get a picture on here (maybe in the Carrot Week 2012 thread). I've left a few kale plants, with some sparse leaves, 'cause I know it tastes good (some say better) once it's been "frost-kissed".

Well, my boyfriend snapped a pic earlier, and I didn't even know 'til a little while ago.

Hey, where is it? I followed the instructions here:[http://squarefoot.creatingforum.com/t129-how-to-post-a-picture-located-on-your-computer], but my computer still messed it up. Mad

It didn't up load, it seems. When you get the choice of thumbnail, image or image url, highlight the middle one labeled image, copy it and paste it into the message you are writing.
