Hello From Michigan!

Post  Cucurbitlover on 11/1/2012, 4:30 pm

My name is Stephanie, aka "Cucurbitlover". I have been gardening for years and have grown just about everything that can be grown in Michigan. I am currently a freshman at Michigan State University, where I am working towards a B.S. degree in Horticulture, and a minor in agronomy. I have starting to get the phd bug, so perhaps in the near future I may go for a phd. We will see...

Thanks for having me!

RE: Hello from Michigan!

Post  Cucurbitlover on 11/7/2012, 12:59 pm

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone! I am very happy I joined.

I am enjoying school very much - for the most part. I guess I am really enjoying one of my horticulture classes and only somewhat enjoying my other classes. The professor is great and he teaches very well, so even something that you are not so interested in he knows how to get you hooked. At least he got me hooked. Maybe too hooked... Smile

A cucurbit is a plant in the Cucurbitaceae family - so a courgette, winter squash, pumpkin, gourd, watermelon, melon... Them and grasses are my main passion! Smile

Thanks again!

Hi CL welcome,

Enjoy your time here ,but do keep your own council whilst studying as to how you play ANSFG here.
Many of the so called educated classes involved in horticulture get very very uptight & hot under the collar as what we do this quite different from the accepted horticultural norm that work all over the world .

Have fun reading Mels book it turns quite a lot of established practices upon their heads . There is also some very very useful charts at the back of the book that seem to work world wide as well.
