Hi there and hello!

Post  Haejin on 12/9/2012, 8:23 pm

I've been quietly visiting the forum for a couple of months (I'm shy even on the interweb) and decided it might be nice to say hello.

Although I have gardened my whole life thanks to parents and grandparents I became an avid gardener myself six years ago when I was diagnosed with cancer. The cancer's gone, but the love of gardening is still going strong! I still keep two traditional vegetable and herb gardens, but took up SFG because my home in Utah has so much wasted space in the form of cement patios and digging out and removing the cement is just so much work compared to raised beds.

Thanks for this awesome forum. I can feel all your excitement and it's infectious!

welcome to the forum Haejin and congrats on beating the big C! I have mostly SFG boxes but do a bit of other gardening as well. We all do what works for our circumstances! Are you currently buried in snow and planning your spring garden? Inquiring minds want to know!

I'm also new and had been lurking for a couple of months Very Happy So far no one bites, LOL! Congrats and your restored health. Your perspective dramatically changes once you've sat in a Cancer Doctor's office and had to face that all of life has potentially changed for you.

I lost my first husband to Melanoma, skin cancer. I'm so glad your outcome was a victorious one.

Do you have any pictures of your garden?!

Welcome Haejin and I'm happy to hear of your victory over C.
This is the forum to use when you want to know what's happening in raised beds all around the country and further.
We share our wins and our losses and everyone posts pictures so we can really see what's happening.
Welcome.

I would love to share photos of my garden, but I've never actually taken one of the garden itself. I don't even have any of an entire plant, just leaves, stems, roots, and flowers. I sometimes need to remind myself to think like a gardener and not a botanist.

I do have some mu (korean radishes) in a cold frame. If i can coax them through this snowy weather I'll definitely take pics and share! The cold frames worked in Seoul so I don't see why they wouldn't work here.

Welcome, Haejin. happy hi
Are you a botanist or was that just a throwaway line? Perhaps another talent to add to our awesome list of contributors who know so much.
So glad you have beaten the big C. Look after yourself.

I really am a botanist, but I don't know how much help that has really been in the garden. I work mainly in conservation and biomass carbon sequestration. Luckily my job keeps me in touch with horticulturalists and agronomists so i can tap their knowledge.
