Corn seed?

We have a rather large sfg....keeps growing every year...and we typically grow silver queen corn, which is awesome. Does anyone have any experience with Mirai 351bc Hybrid Sweet Corn? My neighbor is switching to it and I'm curious because they strongly suggest separation from other corn. Any reports will be appreciated. And Merry Christmas, everybody!

I believe that it is a genetically modified hybrid seed with Bt. Thus, it is not advised to plant near other strains of corn to prevent cross breeding... I suspect. There is some evidence that other insects, beside the cornborer and corn ear worm are adversely effected (killed) by the product, which would include the pollinating insects like bees.

I've looked up this corn, and they are very 'hush, hush' about insects and whether this corn harms them. Wonder why.
I did find this where they say it's not gm, but, on other sites it's recomended that isolation be 700 ft if possible. How much room do you have?
About the only thing you can do is try to find out when they are planting, and schedule your planting where there pollination will not interfere with each other.

It is GMO, the Bt is part of the plant, that ain't natural.
It is called Attribute Insect control, the corn genes have been enhanced or 'engineered'.

What is Bt Corn?

I just point it out as a possible reason for the OP about distance from other corn crop. I am not offering my opinion if it's good or bad, just trying to get to some facts about the product.

Thanks for the feedback! I've been doing research on this one.....part of which was to ask the forum for feedback. I'm leaning to letting this pass...and my neighbor and I have some deep woods between our gardens. Silver Queen's incredible corn....best I have found, so why risk killing bees, screwy cross-pollination etc? Noope! Thanks again for the help....and I hope everyone on here has a Merry Christmas! Is your neighbor's corn in a garden or is it a farm? Do what you can to scare them away from using it.

My understanding is there has been no tests required on its safety by the FDA.

There is no proof that the BT bacteria spliced into the corn can't transfer into your gut bacteria creating little pesticide factories in your stomach.

Old Gray and Toledo...thanks for the reading material. To answer your question...he's got an old fashioned in-the-dirt garden and plants 10 or 12 rows, probably 100 feet or so, long in corn...and is trying out the Mirai because he has an unusually active sweet tooth. LOL The posts you've given me have steered me away from it for sure. Silver Queen is hard to beat!! There's about a 2.5 acre woodland seperating my neighbor's garden from us so maybe we won't be too susceptible to cross-pollination. Veggies that kill bugs? Not for me!!
