Newbie in Northwest Georgia

Hello everyone! I used to be an avid gardener with my own greenhouse and beautiful patch of land. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I haven't been able to garden for over 10 years now! I am so excited to get started again and am completely new to SFG.

I am preparing to order my planting bed and have been planning my new garden (in my head and on paper) for some time now. I can hardly wait to read all the topics on the forum and glean some much needed advice from the all the experts out there. So glad to be here and look forward to hearing from you all!

Hi Durham and welcome to the SFG forum and best group of folks you will ever meet. I too reside in NW GA (Hiram) and have just started the SF method of gardening this year. This forum has taught me a lot, but do get Mel's book if you have not already done so, as it makes for some fantastic reading and will arm you with everything you need to know to get started on the right foot.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the advice. I had been looking at Mel's book on Amazon and I think I will download it to my Kindle. I would like to have a hard copy also, but I can get to reading right away with the e-version! I live in extreme NW Georgia (Chickamauga), so I am right in the tri-state area of GA, TN and AL.

I look forward to getting to know everyone here and learning so much from everyone. This is such an exciting new adventure to start the new year!

cheers Yay, glad you get to start gardening again! And welcome to the forum! Have fun planning and getting started, you probably get to start a lot sooner than me up here in SD. Post pictures of your progress, we love watching gardens grow!

Welcome to the forum. This is the place to come when you have questions about SFG. There are lots of us that started new within the last few years and have learned from one another.

Welcome to the forum! I'm close to you, just north of Chattanooga. 2013 will be my 4th year of SFG & I still love it. If you have any questions, just post away. I'm sure someone will have the answer for you.

Dixie, my mom was born and lived in Chattanooga til I think her late teens, then she and her family moved to California! My sisters and I are planning on going to Chattanooga and a few other places to do some family history hopefully next year. It sounds like a great place to live with lots of things to do!

Hi Triciasgarden, I'm sure you will enjoy your trip! Chattanooga has really grown with a world class aquarium, lots of upscale shops & restaurants, but we still have our small town charm too. Just be warned - It will be culture shock from California.

Thanks for the welcome! I am just a few miles south of Chattanooga, just across the Georgia line near the Chickamauga-Chattanooga National Military Park.

There is so much to do in Chattanooga and the surrounding area, and a perfect place to explore history. I hope you are able to come over and if I can be of any help with genealogical research, let me know. That is another passion of mine!
