2010 my SFG Upgrade

Post  Devondigger on 4/17/2010, 5:25 am

Hi there

I managed to locate a couple of pics of my 1st Year SFG box

Growing we have Peas & Mangetout at the rear,
lettuce to the middle left
Carrots left, Radish middle & Parsnip front right.

It was made from what we in the UK call 'Gravel boards' there 6*1 inch, and they were tanalised(pressure treated to prevent rotting). I know it was suggested not to use treated timber but I lined the inside with sturdy polythene sheeting leaving holes for drainage.
the angled edges are for a cover I made but I think this will be upgraded this year to something a little more sturdy as they are alrady falling apart.

Well in 2010 decided to enlarge our growing space. Box 2 was created!
This is 3 * 9 feet and 12 inch beep

its already planted with some lettuce, corriander, and a chilli plant!

We had realised it we were still getting some cold spells so a cover was bought for the crowing end to keep our Little-Uns happy

It was that cold we even had a little Snow on the Ground, Got that cover just in time.

All is growing well, I have tomato's a week or two from planting out.
We are also growing Sweetcorn Blue Hopi, Strawberry popping and normal Yellow in Tuff Tubs that we will climb our peas up this year. These are having to stay indoors at present as still a little chily for them.

Good Luck All

Mike

Mangetout?

Post  ander217 on 4/21/2010, 12:23 pm

You sent me to the dictionary to look up mangetout. I had no idea they were sugar snap peas. The name comes from French, meaning "Eat it all." (That makes sense. Wouldn't Mangetout be a great name for a restaurant?)

Thanks for teaching me a new word.

BTW, your box looks great.
