Celery success?

Post  tishadw74 on 2/13/2013, 2:12 am

Hey y'all, just wondered if anyone in the Coastal South region has tried to grow celery, and how did it come out? I'm in South Louisiana, just outside of Baton Rouge.

I was wondering the same thing. I know leaf veggies grow well in the winter, but I don't about celery.

And Hello Tishadow74 from a fellow LA SFGer.

Celery success?

Post  tishadw74 on 2/13/2013, 4:53 pm

Hello there! It has been a couple of years since I SFG'ed, last time I just had one 4 x 4 box, this year I am doing two, possibly three. I also want to do a better job of succession planting, last time I pretty much just did one planting and when that crop was done, like carrots, I just didn't plant anything else in that square. Yesterday I stopped by Home Depot and picked up some seeds, but you know I don't remember seeing celery there.

According to the LSU AgCenter, Celery planted from seed is a Fall crop, to be planted from 10/1 - 11/1.

Here is the link to the "Louisiana Vegetable Planting Guide", which has some good information.
